At 19, I moved from Paris to New Mexico, where for seven years I learned Navajo, Hopi and Zuni jewellery techniques. I immediately took to stamping, mostly making concho belts and bracelets. Then I moved to Mali, West-Africa and worked for a few years with Fulani, Touareg and Bambara jewellers. 

In 1999 I settled in Montréal, Canada and continued my studies by attending a jewelry school and learning a more classical part of the trade. Over the years, I have been returning to Africa regularly.

In 2014, Tim McCreight and I created the Toolbox Initiative, a non-profit organization that helps jewellers in West Africa through gifts of donated tools. Since the beginning, I have been stamping and making stamps and have developed a form of stamping design by creating patterns that fill the entire piece of metal. This is called “tessellation”. 

I wrote two books: “Legacy, jewelry techniques of West Africa”, and “The Art of Stamping”, both published at Brynmorgen Press.
